Using Your Learning Preferences to Guide Career Paths
Today you were asked to complete a self-assessment on Howard Gardner’s Multiple Intelligence Theory. The
goal was to identify our learning strengths. Please do not make the mistake of thinking that Gardner’s
theories mean you have only one way to learn! When we find our strengths, we also are identifying skills we
can build and make stronger. To be successful in school, especially post-secondary education, and in career
paths, we need to be able to learn different ways.
In class, we are looking at different ways to assess what we might enjoy and choose as a career path. Now we
will self-assess our learning preferences and see if we can match what we find with career choices.
Theoretically, we should be finding similar career choices based on each of these self-assessments. This may
not be true for each of us, however, for a variety of reasons. Our goal is to look at options, so if you are seeing
many different suggestions for careers, that can be helpful.
After you complete the self-assessment for Howard Gardner’s Multiple Intelligence Theory, please get a
Chromebook and go to the website Best-Career-Match: Multiple Intelligences Career Chart.

assessment. I will put your answers to this packet in the gradebook. Please remember, it is not our purpose
to judge anyone’s career choice. Our goal is to encourage an open-minded approach to one of the most
important decisions young adults make – how will we earn an income?
