As a condition of receiving a state scholarship or grant, the Maryland Higher Education Commission
(MHEC) requires that each recipient pledge to remain drug free for the full term of the award.
For some Maryland state financial aid programs, the pledge is completed online when the student accepts the
award offer through the MHEC portal. However, you have been selected to receive a state award that
requires the pledge be made by completing this paper form and submitting it to the UMGC Financial Aid Office.
Award programs requiring this form include:
• Maryland Part-Time Grant
• Campus Based Educational Assistance Grant (CBEAG)
• Edward T. and Mary A. Conroy Memorial Scholarship & Jean B. Cryor Memorial Scholarship
As a recipient of one of the awards listed above, you must complete this paper version of the pledge statement,
even if you have already completed the online portal version for a different award.
I pledge, as a condition of receiving student financial assistance, to remain drug free
for the full term of the award. Unlawful use of drugs and alcohol may endanger my
enrollment in a Maryland College as well as my Maryland financial aid award.
