Peer Mentor Application

Mentors are trained in ACAD 2220 to provide students a resource on campus that they can rely upon to
answer questions related to their education, the Honors Program, the university, and even personal
matters. Even if the mentor cannot provide an answer, they will be able to direct the student to the
appropriate resource (tutoring, counseling, etc.).
To be a mentor, you must:
be a sophomore-level student or above
be a University Honors Program Student
have a cumulative GPA of at least 3.0
be knowledgeable of campus resources and events
be able to communicate clearly and effectively to your student group by email, phone, and in-
person
be willing to go above and beyond to ensure that your student group has a good experience at
ISU and in the University Honors Program
As a mentor, you will be responsible for:
attending a two-hour training on August 14, 2019 from 2:00 to 4:00 PM in REND 329, to prepare
for Honors New Student Convocation.
attending Honors New Student Convocation on August 15, 2018 from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM, to
assist with event (this requirement is non-negotiable),
communicating via email with your Honors Fall19 Cohort student group several times during the
summer,
extending focused support for mentees the first six weeks of school,
becoming familiar with campus resources and events,
communicating with your students (approximately 8-10 students) regularly,
encouraging students to attend UHP club events,
acting as an advocate and resource for your students,
attending three mentor meetings held during the first six of the F19 semester,
maintaining student confidentiality,
being a positive educational and social role model.
