Simsbury’s Snow Plow Ride-Along Program:
The Town of Simsbury, Department of Public Works is offering the opportunity for
residents to ride-along with one of our snow plows during a winter storm. There is
no fee for the ride-along and all participants will need to be at least 18 years old and
capable of climbing into the large truck.
How it works:
Interested participants can fill out an application with times that they are available to
participate in the ride-along. Applications are available on the town’s web site on the
Public Works home page.
One or two days before a winter storm, town staff will confirm your availability for
the anticipated storm and schedule a time for your ride-along. Participants will arrive
at the public works facility at 66 Town Forest Road, where they will be given an
overview of the town’s snow plowing operations and a tour of the Public Works
vehicle maintenance facility. Following the tour, the participants will meet the plow
driver and climb into the truck. The ride-along will typically last 1 to 2 hours and
return to the public works compound on Town Forest Road.
What to bring:
Participants should dress in comfortable clothes and stable footwear, boots are
preferred. Layered clothing is recommended, as the cab of the plow trucks are kept
very warm to minimize the ice build-up on the windshields (most of our driver’s only
wear a t-shirt or light sweatshirt while plowing).

Safety Rules:
o Seatbelts are to be worn at all times
o No touching of controls or equipment within the truck
o Do not distract the driver or impair his/her ability to operate the truck
o Use grab rails when entering and exiting the truck
Having been advised of and fully understanding the risks that I may be exposed to when participating
in the Simsbury Snow Plow Ride Along Program I do hereby waive, on behalf of myself, my agents,
heirs, successors and assigns, any and all causes of action, claims or demands for damages, injuries or
death arising from my participation in the Simsbury Snow Plow Ride-Along Program and release the
Town of Simsbury, its departments, officers, agents, servants, employees, officials, contractors,
subcontractors, consultants, heirs and assigns from liability for Claims made by me or on my behalf.
I have read the foregoing and fully acknowledge, understand and agree with its contents.
