NOTICE OF FIRE WATCH
Your occupancy has been determined to have an issue with the function of the fire alarm, sprinkler or both of
these features. As a result, your occupancy has been determined to require extra measures to permit being occupied by
anyone.
Section 901.7 of the South Carolina Fire Code states: Where a required fire protection system is out of service, the
fire department and the fire code official shall be notified immediately and, where required by the fire code official, the
building shall be either evacuated or an approved fire watch shall be provided for all occupants left unprotected by the
shutdown until the fire protection system has been returned to service.Where utilized, fire watches shall be provided with
not less than one approved means for notification of the fire department and their only duty shall be to perform constant
patrols of the protected premises and keep watch for fires. Be aware that fire watch is a privilege by fire code. All measures
outlined must be followed.
Upon being approved for fire watch in your occupancy, you will be required to:
• Designate the number of personnel required by the fire code official to carry out patrols of the protected occupancy
for fires
• Maintain documentation on the provided sheet in 15 minute intervals for the entire protected structure
• Maintain your fire watch for the entire time, at specified intervals, the building is occupied (Employees count
towards occupancy)
• Continue until directed by the fire code official that fire watch may be terminated
• Provide copies of your fire watch documentation to the fire code official

official, will be recognized as being in compliance.
