Tom’semployergavehimalightdutyassignmentwhileherecuperated.Therefore,Tomonlymissedtwoweeks
ofwork,ratherthantheentiretenweekswhilehewasoncrutchesandreceivingphysicaltherapy.Asoneofhis
employmentbenefits,Tomhadaccumulated 35pai
dsickdaysoverthelastsixyears.Hewasabletousethese
sickdaysduringhisrecoveryperiod,sohedidn’tloseanyincomeduringhistwoweeksofnotworkingandthe
additional5daysmissedforfollowupexamsandphysicaltherapy.Thistotaled$
2,500inwagesthatwouldhave
beenlostwithoutpaidsickdays.
Thankstoworkers’compensationandsickleaveprovidedbyhisemployer,Tomhadaquickrecoveryand
returnedtofightingfireswithnofinancialhardshipsfrommedicalbillsandlostwages.Thishelped himavoid
stressduringhisrecoveryandhisqui
