Oh how we wish things were different. We were hoping that by now life would be more predictable. After two of the most difficult
school years in memory, we thought for sure we would have turned a corner. But for many of us, the future feels even more uncertain
than ever.
Our hearts go out to all of you, your families and students. We know that on top of a pandemic that continues to rage, you and
your students are also dealing with the impact of ongoing institutional and systemic racism; extreme weather; a battered economy;
and dozens of other everyday disruptions.
But we also continue to look for the light and the joy. The laughter and the lightbulbs. The imagination and the silver-linings.
Relationships between parents and teachers have been forever changed by these last two years. Technologies have been adopted,
adapted and advanced in new and exciting ways. Children, families, and educators are being encouraged and empowered to find
creative solutions. And so we hold onto that light.
At PBS, we continue to be your biggest cheerleaders. Like you, we have also learned a lot over the past two years which is why
we’re so excited to offer this new planning kit, with a monthly calendar of timely resources aligned to the subjects and themes you’re
teaching in the classroom, and a digital planner to help you implement them into your curriculum. The planner includes a weekly
planning page, a lesson plan template, and tips on using media in the classroom effectively.
Each month, you will find bite-sized professional learning opportunities; quality media that can be integrated into your classrooms
and lessons; suggestions for self growth and self care; and, importantly, inclusive content that affirms the identity of your students and
honors a diversity of cultural values, norms, and points of view. We also hope you’ll join us for virtual events throughout the year
meant to help support you, your students and your practice.
We don’t know what the future holds, but we know our world is better with you, our nation’s educators. Thank you again for
all that you do--and please don’t hesitate to let us know how we can better support you and your classroom.
Love from all your friends at PBS
