I. Teaching/Learning Institute (TLI) Introduction and Overview
Introduction
Mission College is here to ensure student success and support. It is our duty as administrators,
faculty, and staff to do the best we can to serve our students. To support students’ greatest
opportunities for success, we must develop a community that fosters learning and is
responsive to the unique needs of our community. During an AANAPISI sponsored focus group
of AAPI students conducted in October 2013, students voiced their strong desire to experience
learning opportunities that promote a sense of cultural integrity and belonging incorporating
understanding of their complex histories, circumstances and needs. In response to these
requests, AANAPISI has developed a Teaching/Learning Institute designed to build our capacity
to enact our students’ vision.
Overview
We invite Mission College faculty and classified staff that are adamantly committed to student
success and equity to apply for participation in this innovative initiative. Participants will
receive comprehensive supports to design and implement teaching/learning demonstration
projects aimed at promoting equitable access and success for all student populations,
including Asian American/Pacific Islander students. Participation in this institute will help
support AANAPISI’s mission of strengthening the College’s ability to promote Asian American
Pacific Islander (AAPI) student success. Moreover, such activities will begin to foster and build
the collaborative partnerships required to increase student success for all of Mission College’s
underserved populations.
The AANAPISI Programs welcome Mission College’s full and part-time faculty
to apply for TLI
participation. We are especially seeking applicants from the following departments, as
targeted in the Part A and F Grants: English; ESL; Reading; Math; Bioscience; Chemistry;
Physics; Engineering; Computer Science and Information Technology; Accounting; Business;
Economics; History; Sociology.
The AANAPISI Programs also welcome Mission College’s full-time and part-time classified staff
to apply for TLI participation. We are especially seeking classified staff applicants who work
directly with students whether it’s in a coordinator, technician, program specialist, or advisor
role. Examples of classified staff include EOPS/DSPS Specialists; Student Services Technicians;
Student Records Advisor; Students Enrollment and Financial Services Advisor; Financial Aid
Advisor; Instructional Laboratory Technicians.
