Selective Admissions & Criteria Process
The Surgical Technology Program uses a selective admission process, based upon a ranking system
that considers grades in pre-program courses, grades in foundation courses, previous work
experience in healthcare and an applicant’s cumulative college GPA at the time of admission. The
ranking system is designed to select for students most likely to succeed in the surgical technology
program. The applications will be ranked and those applicants who have met all pre-program entry
requirements and with the highest scores will be offered admission until all seats are filled.

D. Students must have a minimum of 37 points to be considered for admission
E. Must complete sciences and allied health courses with 2.0 or better. Sciences must be
completed within 5 years of entry into the program

The deadline for applications submitted via Canvas is the last Friday in May (unless
otherwise noted).
Selection Process: The Surgical Technology Programs uses a ranking system based upon the
selective admission worksheet on the following page. Students earn points based upon grades
received in prerequisite and foundation courses, overall GPA, and healthcare work experience.
Available seats are offered to students with the highest point totals and who have met all pre-
program entry requirements. A minimum of 37 points is necessary for admission to the program.
BCCC reserves the right to modify the admissions requirements at any time in the student’s enrollment.
Effective for students applying for entry for Fall 2018 and beyond.
