Application
Program Overview
The Undergraduate Research Writing Institute is designed to introduce undergraduate students to the research
writing process including crafting strong creative, innovative, and scientific research proposals. The Institute is
open to all majors and classifications with the exception of students who are currently or have previously
participated in ASU’s undergraduate research program. While we strongly encourage applications from
underrepresented areas such as Arts and Humanities and Business; we will not exclude any disciplines or majors.
The Institute will offer the opportunity for students to participate in various workshops designed to enhance
undergraduate research writing skills and receive one-on-one guidance from two of ASU’s faculty from the English
and Natural Sciences departments.
Student Requirements and expectations
Students must submit a completed application to the Center for Undergraduate Research by 5 p.m. Friday,
April 17, 2015. ( Location: 215 Wiley Hall)
Students do not have to be enrolled for summer 2015 but must plan to be enrolled Fall 2015 semester. In
addition students must commit to scheduling no classes after 12 noon Monday Thursday. (If accepted
into the Institute the students must provide a class schedule/ proof of registration for Fall 2015 to the
Undergraduate Research Program Director upon registering for Fall 2015 courses).
Students will be required to attend the Institute four hours a day for four days. There will be two 2-hour
sessions per day the exact times and locations to be announced.
Stipend Award
The selected students will earn up to $1,000.00 for their participation in the institute and continued participation as
undergraduate researchers during the Fall semester. The $1,000.00 will be dispersed in two equal installments. One
at the end of the Institute (estimated disbursement July 2, 2015) and one at the end of the Fall semester (Contingent
to meeting all program requirements)

looking for creative, innovative, and scientific ideas that will bring new or added knowledge to your discipline.
