Requirements for Acceptance
The Order of the Sword and Shield is open to any undergraduate, graduate, or certificate
student who is enrolled in a Homeland Security, Intelligence, Emergency Management,
or Protective Security Studies program. Some programs in the Protective Security
discipline include the following. (not a complete listing):
Please note that this is not a complete listing of all Protective Security disciplines and that
the Society reserves the right to include/exclude any proposed academic program after
careful review.
The following academic criteria MUST be satisfied at the time of induction:
1. Completion of ONE HALF (1/2) of the applicant’s total number of
credits required to earn the degree or certificate, including completion
of ONE HALF (1/2) of all credits required by the Homeland Security,
Intelligence, Emergency Management, or Protective Security Studies
discipline; and
2. Have achieved an overall 3.25 (undergraduate) or a 3.50 (graduate)
cumulative GPA or higher (on a scale of 4.0) for ALL CREDITS,
including transfer credits; or be in the top 20% of such program; and
3. Provide ONE (1) academic letter of recommendation which MUST
attest to the applicant’s “outstanding academic performance” in his or
her coursework; and
4. Provide an “unofficial” transcript or grade report.
The completed application package must be accompanied by a check or money order made
payable to the “Order of the Sword and Shield in the amount of $50.
