Application for IEEE-HKN Student Awards
About us:
IEEE-Eta Kappa Nu is the National honor society for electrical engineers, computer engineers and computer scientists. The
Epsilon Xi chapter of IEEE-Eta Kappa Nu was established on May 22, 1966 at Wichita State University. Some of the benefits of
being a member are:
Academic Accomplishment: Ensure that your exceptional academic accomplishment and strong character is publicly
recognized by the entire engineering industry.
Networking Opportunities: Gain numerous networking opportunities by joining an organization that has members in leading
roles with corporations, government and universities.

About the Awards:
The Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science and IEEE-HKN Epsilon Xi Chapter joined hands in Spring
2015 to celebrate the success of our graduates. As a part of this collaborative effort we recognize your achievements.
Graduating graduate and undergraduate students are invited to nominate themselves or someone else for the IEEE-HKN
student awards. The finalists and winners will be recognized during the end of the semester celebrations immediately after
commencement ceremony.
Recognizing the excellence through these awards is a key aspect of IEEE-HKN Epsilon Xi Chapter and therefore, it will be
our honor to identify and award those who display the 3 ideals that we seek for in an individual:
Scholarship - Character - Attitude
We are inviting nominations for the following awards
IEEE-HKN James Maxwell Award: This is presented to the outstanding graduating senior who has demonstrated excellence
in scholarship, character and attitude.
IEEE-HKN Charles Wheatstone Award: This is presented to the outstanding graduating graduate student (MS and Ph.D.)
who has demonstrated excellence in scholarship, ability to learn independently, character and attitude.
Instructions:
1. Please complete the attached form. If required fields (*) are left incomplete, application will be disqualified.
2. Each application should include the following (should not exceed 15 pages including this form)
a) Complete application form
b) Statement of purpose: This should include (word limit 700)
i) Your educational experience at Wichita State,
ii) How your experience at Wichita State helped you develop your skills in terms of scholarship -
character and attitude
iii) Why you deserve this award
c) Transcripts
d) Letter of recommendation should include scholarship, character and attitude with emphasis to WSU community.
(at least one is required)
i) Undergraduate students can obtain from from ether faculty members or student organization advisors
ii) Graduate students can obtain from faculty members, preferably from their advisor
e) A complete resume
f) A short description of the projects, presentations and publications (less than 150 word abstract for each)
g) If under preparation submit an abstract with signature from advisor
h) Use provided forms for information regarding student involvement, publication and employment
3. All applicants: Your signature is required for further consideration of this application
4. Graduate students: Your advisor's signatures is required
5. Place all documents in a sealed envelope and submit to:
