Single Parent Scholarship Application
The Single Parents with Children Scholarship is a fund that has been established to assist
single, divorced or widowed Emporia State University students who are raising children
and attending school simultaneously. Scholarship funds in the amount of $2,500.are
awarded for the academic year, with half of the disbursement in the fall semester and
the remainder in the spring semester.
Eligibility:
Be a single parent with primary, sole, or joint custody of their child or children
Achieve and maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.75
Complete a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) for the academic
year in which the scholarship is to be awarded.
Demonstrate financial need based on their FASFA.
Be enrolled at ESU in at least 12 credit hours for the fall semester of the
scholarship year for undergraduate, or 7 credit hours for graduate students.
This scholarship is renewable for up to a total of three years.
Recipients seeking a renewed scholarship must:
o Continue to meet all of the eligibility requirements listed in the section
above.
o Submit a new application each year (including all materials except letters
of recommendation).
o Complete 12 or more credit hours for undergraduate (7 credit hour or
more for graduate students) per semester and maintain a minimum
cumulative GPA of 2.75.
Failure to maintain Satisfactory Academic Progress will result in a one semester
probation period. The scholarship will be forfeited on the second failure to meet
credit hours and GPA requirements.
To be considered for this scholarship, the materials listed below must be submitted no
later than 5:00pm on Friday, March 20, 2020, to Nancy Standiferd, Memorial Union,
Center for Student Involvement. Late or incomplete applications will not be considered.
Application materials needed along with this application form:
Essay, 750 1,000 words, describing your personal and professional goals after
completing your degree.
Copy of completed FAFSA for the 2020-2021 (next) academic year.
Copy of financial aid award for the 2019-2020 (current) academic year.
You will also need to have submitted two letters of recommendation (from professors,
employers or other individuals to whom you are not related) directly to Nancy
Standiferd, Center for Student Involvement.
