Business Crime Prevention & Partnership
Crime burglary, robbery, vandalism, shoplifting, employee theft, and fraud costs businesses
billions of dollars each year. These crimes can be devastating to businesses, which lose both
customers and employees when worry and fear claim a business neighborhood.
The Sherwood Police Department wants to partner with businesses to help reduce business-
related crime in Sherwood. Our goal is to provide a safe and secure environment and preserve
the quality of life for our citizens, business leaders, and community. As part of this effort, the
Sherwood Police Department would like to help and work alongside the business community.
These types of partnerships are already in place across the country and have proven successful
in reducing and deterring crime in business communities. They have been proven to increase
security and the general sense of safety and well-being within business communities.
Benefits of Business / Law Enforcement Partnerships
Police Officers can help show business owners and employees crime prevention techniques and
strategies they can use to help cut down on business-related crime. They can help to teach
businesses how to avoid becoming a target for crime.
Law enforcement cannot be on every corner, so citizen involvement is essential to combat
crime.
You and your fellow merchants are the ones who really know what is going on in your
business community.
Cooperating with each other and law enforcement, you can help fight crime in your
business community in the most effective way before the crime ever begins.

The business community is more likely to thrive when you help provide a safe environment
for customers and employees.
Through various elements of this partnership, you can reduce the financial losses that can
occur due to crime.
Helping businesses reduce and prevent crime must be a community effort. Law enforcement can
work with owners to improve security and design their spaces to reduce risk. Businesses and law
enforcement can join together in this effort to alert each other to crime patterns and suspicious
activities, reducing the likelihood that business crime will take place and making the business
community safer and more enjoyable for everyone.
