Self-Paced Math Classes Spring 2021
Do you need a quick review of math and want to learn at your own pace?
Are you required to take Math 085, Math 095, Math 104 or Math 137?
Do you want the opportunity to complete more than 1 math course in 1 semester?
A Self-Paced Math Class Might Be Just What You Need!
Students who are self-motivated, comfortable using
the computer, like flexible learning schedules and are
able to set their own goals and manage their study
time are best served with self-paced classes.
This is not a lecture-based class. Most of the learning
happens in the web-based learning environment,
supplemented with remote individualized
instruction.

video about the self-paced
courses.

Course Requirements:
Pretest start by taking a pretest to determine what you already know and what you
need to learn
Topics - learn course material by reviewing learning pages and completing the topics
within each ‘slice’ of the ‘pie’
Homework Assignments - each assignment is made up of 5 questions; there are multiple
assignments per ‘slice’; you can redo any homework assignment and your best grade is
counted towards your course grade
Tests 4 or 5 tests (depending on the course), you can redo a test once and your best
test grade is counted towards your course grade
Knowledge Checks once you complete 90% of the topics within a ‘slice’ then an
automatic assessment will by generated by the ALEKS program; you will have to redo
any topics you get wrong on an automatic assessment
Final Exam Review helps you prepare for the final exam; can be redone as many times
as you like and your best grade is counted towards your course grade
Final Exam covers all of the course material and can only be taken once
Time Requirement
Math 085 (6 semester hours) 14 hours a week; for a total of 210 hours
(including class time)
Math 095 (3 semester hours) 7 hours a week; for a total of 105 hours (including
class time)
Math 104 (3 credit hours) 7 hours a week; for a total of 105 hours (including
class time)
Math 137 (3 credit hours) 7 hours a week; for a total of 105 hours (including
class time)
Topics per Week each course is set up so students need to complete a specific number
of topics per week depending on the course
Course Calendar tests are scheduled for specific dates but students have the option of
working ahead of the course calendar
LRON vs ONLINE - For the LRON courses, students are expected to be logged into ALEKS
and working on the course during the scheduled course time. Instructor and tutor will
be available for remote assistance during scheduled course time. You will also have to
spend additional time outside of the scheduled class time on the course material. For
the ONLINE courses, students can choose when to work in ALEKS. Instructor and tutor
will be available for remote assistance at various times of day.
