Residential/Commercial Roofing Permit Process
1. The Roofing Permit Application must be fully completed, including an estimated valuation of the
project and description of work to be performed. The contractor performing the work must be registered
with the City. A Roofing Permit generally does not require site plans or schematics to be included with
the application.
2. Payment is received by the City. ($0.00 for the permit, $80.00 for each inspection up to $10,000.00 in
value, and higher for value greater than $10,000.00)
3. City staff process the application:
o Payment is processed.
o Receipt is generated.
o Copy of application and any supporting documentation is sent to Bureau Veritas.
o Permit is issued.
o Application is marked as “pending inspection” and filed.
4. After work is completed, contractor or homeowner contacts Bureau Veritas at 877-837-8775 to request
an inspection.
5. Inspection is performed.
6. Bureau Veritas submits the results of the inspection to the City. The application is marked as complete,
recorded, and filed.
Who needs a Roofing Permit?
Anyone whose property resides within the City of Aubrey and who is re-roofing a main residence or
commercial structure. Those whose property resides in the extra-territorial jurisdiction (ETJ) do not have to
apply for a Roofing Permit with the City of Aubrey. However, Denton County may require permits or
inspections. The number for the Denton County planning department is 940-349-2990.
*Property owners who qualify for and claim a homestead exemption may perform the work themselves in lieu
of a contractor. In such cases, a permit and inspection is still required.
