Residency Application Process
1. All applicants to UWA’s Alternative Class A degree must have a passing score on the appropriate Praxis II test prior
to applying for the Alternative Class A degree program at UWA. Before your Internship semester, you will also be
required to pass the Praxis Core. Some programs also require additional Praxis II tests prior to internship. To find out

2. Use this web address to begin your application process for acceptance into the online UWA Alternative Class A
degree program of your choice:
UWA Application
You will be taking all your classes online. Classes will begin on May 17, 2021. You will follow the Project REACh course
roadmap for your chosen degree program. All Project REACh Alt. A program coursework must be completed within 14-
months.

*Project REACh applicants are required to have a 3.0 GPA, not the 2.75 listed on this site.
3. Complete and submit your Project REACh application to projectreach@uwa.edu by the deadline of March 15, 2021.
4. If you are interested in applying for the Residency Black Belt Teacher Corps Teach for Alabama educational stipend,
please indicate this on your application. This course stipend is paid in semester increments to assist with educational
course costs. It maintains all of the same requirements and repayments outlined for Project REACh. A signed contract
will be required for admission into this program.
5. Resident interviews will be scheduled beginning the week of March 29, 2021.
6. Residents will be notified of their Project REACh acceptance status by April 16, 2021.

If I am accepted as a Project REACh Resident, I understand that I will receive a living wage stipend each month (gross
total award of $45,000.00) for 12 months for my participation in and fulfillment of the Project REACh Residency
Program requirements. I understand this stipend is awarded to me based upon my commitment to earn an Alt. A
degree and become a certified teacher in the state of Alabama within the timeline established by the project. I

must accept placement at one of the fourteen schools included in the project. Only schools listed as project partners
are available for residency. I understand my attendance is mandatory for all Project REACh training and events. I
understand I will be required to sign a Project REACh Contract Agreement and failure to do so will result in dismissal
from the program. If I am accepted as a Project REACh Resident and change my mind to complete all of the Project
REACh requirements, I understand I will be required to repay any scholarship monies received within a thirty-six (36)
month period.
