REQUEST FOR CARES ENHANCED EMERGENCY GRANT

In response to the COVID-19 crisis, SUNY Plattsburgh transitioned all spring 2020 classes to distance learning and
required most students to vacate the residence halls after spring break. The federal CARES Act authorizes colleges to
award emergency financial aid grants to students for their allowable expenses that are related to the disruption of campus
operations due to coronavirus. Allowable expenses must be the result of the disruption of campus operations due to
coronavirus, and include food, housing, course materials, technology and computer, health care, dependent care,
transportation, and other non-tuition expenses under the cost of attendance.
SUNY Plattsburgh has already notified all eligible students of their Base Emergency Grant. The amount of your Base
Grant was emailed to you in June or Later in a CARES Base Grant Award Notification (GAN). This form allows students
to request an Enhanced Emergency Grant for allowable expenses in excess of the amount of a Base Grant. Follow the
instructions below if you, the student, have already incurred or will incur allowable expenses in excess of the amount of
your Base Grant. The maximum amount of the sum of the Base and Enhanced Grant for any student is $6,195.
If your request is authorized, the authorized amount will be refunded to you irrespective of any outstanding account
balance with the college. Refunds will be delivered via the normal college refund process for students, BankMobile
.
Enhanced Grants are refunded to students in sequential order based upon the receipt date of this request, until the
exhaustion of the college’s federal allocation. CARES Grants are not considered financial aid, are not included in your
financial aid package, and have no impact on your financial aid package.
STUDENT INSTRUCTIONS
1. Submit a Certification for a CARES Base Emergency Grant.
2. Consider submitting the online form on MyPlattsburgh instead of this one: CARES Enhanced Grant Request.
3. In the table below, list each allowable expense that you have already incurred or will incur as a result of the disruption
of campus operations due to coronavirus. Include all of your allowable expenses in the list below. If authorized, we
will subtract the amount of your Base Grant from the total allowable expenses that are listed below.
4. For each allowable expense, write a brief description, describe how it is related to the disruption of campus operations
due to coronavirus, specify the amount, and check the expense type.
5. Sign the Student Certification below, and return this form to the Financial Aid Office.
