patHWaYs to Completion of programs/3
making Your
individual studY plan
Regent College programs offer
you a degree of flexibility in how
you complete them.
These pages will help you create an Individual
Study Plan to map out exactly how you intend to
proceed—which courses you intend to take in
which years and terms. We’ve provided a Course
Planning Chart to help you with this. Use the
schedules below associated with your program
and concentration, together with the information
provided in the Academic Catalogue for each
program, to develop this plan. Feel free to consult
the College’s Academic Advisor for assistance.
Your plan may be modified in the future, but ou
need to begin with a realistic plan based on what
you know now. The schedules given below will give
you recommendations of how to begin your studies
and of how to schedule your courses if you plan to
complete the GradDipCS within two, three, or four
terms, the MA Theo Studies within two or three
years, the MDiv within three or four years, or the
ThM within about one year. While you may, through
part-time study, take longer than that, we believe
it will be a better learning experience for you if you
can complete through full-time study.
In planning your course of study, you should also
note the following:
• Particularly for MA Theo Studies and MDiv
students, it is important that your first ear
consist primarily of foundational core courses (see
below), since these will provide a foundation for
the remainder of your studies.
• There are some sequences of courses that
are important to observe because of course
prerequisites.
• You may begin your studies in any term. Note
that while it is fine to begin in the Winter term,
doing so offers you fewer advantages in terms of
completing your program with greatest efficiency
• Greater care is needed in planning your program
if you wish to complete the MA Theo Studies in
two years or the MDiv in three years. If you want
to complete the MA in two years, you will need to
decide your concentration at the beginning of your
studies and you should opt for the comprehensive
exam for your final project
• Required courses in any program or
concentration will be offered every year, and
almost always within Fall or Winter terms.
Required courses will sometimes be offered again
in the Summer term, but you will need to check
each year to see which ones these are.
• Required courses and electives may be taken
in any term that they are offered—Fall, Winter,
or Summer—provided this does not upset course
sequencing (e.g., prerequisites).
• Required courses offered in the Fall usually stay
as Fall courses from year to year, and required
courses offered in the Winter usually stay as
Winter courses. While every effort is made by the
College to maintain this rule, on occasion—for
example, when faculty go on sabbatical leave—
required courses will be offered in a term other
than when they are normally scheduled. You
should check the timetables for the following year
early to make sure you can follow your planned
schedule. See Course Offerings for when courses
are normally offered. Contact the Academic
Advisor in the Student Services Office for help i
any scheduling problems arise.
• The first ear (6 credits) of Introductory Hebrew
or Introductory Greek may be taken either in the
Summer or in the Fall and Winter.
• Biblical Exegesis (BIBL 503) may be taken either
in the Fall or in the Winter term. While there are no
prerequisites for this course, students in general
would benefit from taking a biblical languag
course first. Note that Introductory Hebr w (LANG
510/511) and Introductory Greek (LANG 550/551)
