Past President’s Scholarship 2021 Application Form
PLEASE READ THE FOLLOWING INFORMATION CAREFULLY AND COMPLETELY.
Scholarship Details
Four (4) Scholarships are awarded annually. One first-place winner from each of the two (2) essay
topics (see 4 a. below) will be awarded $5,000.00 each, and one second-place winner from each of
the same two (2) essay topics (see 4 a. below) will be awarded $2,500.00 each, for a grand total of
$15,000.00 annually.
Eligibility Requirements
1. This scholarship is applicable to students currently in their final year of an Ontario secondary
school who are pursuing post-secondary education after graduation, for example, at college,
university, or a trade school. Students must currently reside in the province of Ontario and be
registered with a secondary school within the province. Applicants must also be a Canadian citizen or
have been given permanent resident status. Applicants applying to a post-secondary school outside of
Ontario (or even Canada), are still eligible for the scholarship. NOTE: Students must currently be
enrolled and attending their final year of secondary school – individuals currently taking a gap year are
not eligible to apply.
2. Applications must be submitted via email to scholarships@trebnet.com before 3:00 p.m. on Friday,
March 26, 2021.
3. Applicants must have a record of academic achievement and possess a range of leadership qualities
and community involvement experience.
4. Applicants must complete the Personal Information section (Page 3) of this application form
and submit it together with the following documents:
a. A written essay (minimum of 1500 words, typed and double-spaced) on one of the following
subjects:
i. For many young Canadians, the dream of home ownership feels like an impossible
reality. After graduating and starting your desired career, do you think home ownership
will be attainable for you?
ii. The GTA’s population is expected to grow to more than 10 million people by 2041. How
do you think local governments should address the housing needs of a growing
population?
If applicable, citations must be present; however, they are not included in the word count. The
style of citation is your choice, for example, MLA or APA.
IMPORTANT NOTE: In order to facilitate the judging process, please do not include any
personal information, for example, your name and email address, on the individual essay
pages (on the optional cover page is fine).
b. A detailed resume outlining academic achievements, work experience, volunteer work, and
extracurricular activities.
c. Two (2) brief letters of reference (including current contact information for each reference).
The resume and letters of reference may be in paragraph, chart, bullet point, etc., format.
NOTE: The two reference letters do not have to be from a past or current secondary school
teacher; you may also consider, for example, the parent(s) of children you babysit, neighbours
that you help out, a leader in the sport(s) you participate in, a lifelong family friend who knows
you very well, or your supervisor at a past or present after-school job.
