1. The closing date for applications is 31 OCTOBER 2021, late applications will be disqualified.
2. Incomplete applications will be delayed due to late submission of supporting documents.
3. UCT aims to cover most of the cost of attendance for students who qualify for financial aid, and a contribution towards
tuition for merit and GAP funded applicants.
4. UCT does not guarantee that an applicant will receive funding. Students must make every effort to apply for funding
or financial support from as many other sources as possible.
5. By completing this application form, it is your undertaking to comply with The University of Cape Town policy
on postgraduate funding, which is subject to change without prior notice.
6. The University cannot be held liable for Students' failure to familiarize themselves with the terms and conditions of
this application. Students are encouraged to seek advice from the Postgraduate Funding Office (PGFO).
7. The University is not liable for any outstanding balance on the fee account of any student funded via the PGFO and
any such outstanding debt is the sole responsibility of that student.
8. The PGFO will not take responsibility for unread emails due to the applicant’s failure to check their UCT email.

10. All applicants applying for financial need support will be means-tested to determine eligibility and level of support.
Eligibility Criteria for UCT Postgraduate General Awards
1. NRF: Applicants are encouraged to apply to the National Research Foundation (NRF) if they are eligible.
2. Nationality: Applicants must either be South African or a South African permanent resident.
3. Employment: Applicants cannot be full time employed (working more than 20 hours per week)
4. Total Funding Limit: Applicants who have exceeded their Cost of Attendance limit
5. Means Test: Applicants over the income threshold will not be eligible for need-based funding
6. Grades: Applicants must obtain a Grade Point Average (GPA) of at least 60% for merit-based funding
7. Admissions: Applicants who have not applied to admissions, was denied, or withdrawn will not be considered.
8. Tenure: Applicants over the degree tenure will not be considered (Years: Honours – 1, Master’s – 2, Doctoral – 3)
9. Qualifications: Applicants cannot be considered for funding for a 2
nd
degree at the same level or lower
10. Degree choice: Applicants who applied for funding for the following in 2022 will not be supported:
I. Undergraduate degrees (including 4

year bachelor’s degree, LLB, MbChB and BArch, etc)
II. Postgraduate Diplomas, Postgraduate Certificates and HDE (Higher Diploma in Education)
III. Honours in the Economic Analysis of Financial Markets (EAFM) program, formerly called FAPM
IV. Master’s in MMed, MBA or Professional Master's with research component less than 33%
V. Any other part-time degree or degree with less than 33% research components,
