PASS-NO PASS REQUEST
Students may elect to enroll up to 12 credits through the pass-no pass grading option during their undergraduate career at Furman. No student may elect the
pass-no pass grading option for more than 8 credits in a single term. Students on academic probation may not exercise this option, nor may any student who
has ever been suspended for academic reasons, or in any situation where an academic integrity question is outstanding. Courses enrolled prior to fall 2016 are
not eligible for retroactive application of the pass-no pass deadline.
Courses enrolled through the pass-no pass grading option may not satisfy a general education requirement or be a part of a Furman-sponsored study away
program. No foreign language courses may be enrolled through the pass-no pass grading option until the student has satisfied the foreign language general
education requirement. Students may not elect the pass-no pass grading option for any course offered through their major department and no course in which a
passing (P) or marginal pass (PD) grade has been recorded may contribute to a student’s major requirements unless specifically designated by the major
department.
Students may elect the pass-no pass grading option for any course consistent with stated eligibility rules through the Registrar’s Office. Courses graded pass-
no pass only do not contribute to meeting the 12 credit pass-no pass grading option limit.
All courses that a student completes on a pass-no pass basis contribute to the 12 credit pass-no pass grading option limit and once selected the pass-no pass
grading option designation cannot be revoked. The pass no-pass grading option must be elected no later than the conclusion of the final exam period during a
student’s last term at Furman. Courses enrolled prior to fall 2016 are not eligible for retroactive application of the pass-no pass deadline.
