Opportunities for Alumni and Practicing Engineers
Department Industry Events
An Evening With Industry
Every fall, the Department seeks panelists and industry
sponsors as part of this unique interaction between students
and industry. Panelists are sought from all backgrounds, sectors
of the industry, and disciplines of civil engineering to answer
student questions and discuss their careers in civil engineering.
Industry event sponsors can discuss what their company or
agency does and can answer questions about careers in civil
engineering.
e Ken Kerri Endowment Fund Luncheon
e highlight of Alumni Week in April is the annual Ken Kerri
Endowment Fund Luncheon which brings together members
of the civil engineering to support student scholarships and
special faculty-student projects.
CE Golf Tournament
Every September, the Department welcomes golfers of all
skill levels and industry sponsors to participate in a golf
tournament to support Department activities.
Graduate Student Welcome
At the start of the school year, the Department invites graduate
students to meet with the faculty and other students in
the program.

Guest Speaker Opportunities
Civil Engineering Seminar
Every semester, guest speakers in Civil Engineering Seminar
class introduce students to the different disciplines and career
opportunities within the field of civil engineering.
Al
umni Week
Every April, alumni are matched with civil engineering courses
and scheduled as guest speakers to discuss trends in their eld
and lessons learned aer college.
Student Clubs
Professional student engineering organizations, like ASCE,
meet monthly and seek both guest speakers and hosts to
discuss or tour local projects. ese organizations also have
teams that welcome guidance on activities related to annual
student competitions.
Senior Design Clients and Tech Mentors
Every semester, our Senior Design class seeks project
suggestions as well as involvement by practicing, professional
engineers who serve as either “technical mentors” or clients
to provide guidance or evaluate completed student projects.
Part-Time Instructors
The Department is always looking for qualified and
enthusiastic part-time instructors who can teach courses.
University teaching experience is not required, but there are
academic and professional requirements.
Research Collaborations Sponsorships
Our faculty and graduate students welcome partnerships with
practicing engineers to work on industry-inspired sponsored,
applied research projects. e Department can serve as a
resource for the local engineering community.
Industrial Advisory Committees
e Department meets twice each semester with active
members in the civil engineering community who provide
guidance and recommendations to the Civil Engineering
program and to help organize industry events.
Engineering Career Fair
Every March, the College Career Services Center hosts an
engineering career fair that brings together rms and agencies
seeking to improve or expand their workforce with our
students.
Donations/Gis
You can always support the program through a monetary
donation or in-kind gi. e easiest way to give is through the
Department website (just click on the link that says “Support
the Department” and designate that your gi to go to the
Department of Civil Engineering. Other gifts can be arranged
by contacting the Department.
