NOMINATION FOR DEPARTMENTAL HONORS
The Department of __________________________has reviewed the request of ____________________
for Departmental Honors and has determined that this person is eligible for candidacy for these honors.
Honors programs may include opportunities for independent study with an accompanying paper, a substantial
research report, or, in the case of honors work in the arts, a project as decided by each individual department. All
students working toward departmental honors are required to present an independent study paper, research report,
or project at the Student Research Forum or at departmental approved program. In order to be considered for
departmental honors, a student must first be approved by the department. A student must arrange for a committee of
at least two faculty members, one of whom must be from outside the major, to oversee and approve the project plan,
topic, schedule of activities and anticipated presentation results.
Eligibility for Candidacy: A student must have 3.25 in the major and 3.25 cumulative GPA and must have attained
junior standing (60 earned hours) at the time of admission to the program with more than half of the work done in
residence at Centenary. A student must spend a minimum of two semesters in the program and maintain at least a
3.25 in both major and non-major courses. Therefore, students must apply for departmental honors prior to the
senior year.
