NIH Principal Investigator (PI) Assurance Certification
For Grant Applications, Progress Reports, and Prior Approval Requests
On April 7, 2006, the National Institutes of Health (NIH) announced a change regarding the signature of the Principal Investigator (PI) as
part of applications, post-submission information, progress reports, and post-award prior approval requests (see http://grants.nih.gov/
grants/guide/notice-files/NOT-OD-06-054.html ).
This change is effective for all competing applications submitted to NIH on May 10, 2006 and thereafter. When multiple PIs are
proposed in an application, this assurance must be retained for each named investigator.
