Call for Proposals
The Maryland Community College International Education Consortium (MCCIEC) announces
its 2020 conference to be held in Prague from January 5 to 11. Where better to address the
concepts of identity and citizenship than in the Czech Republic? Although the history of the
region dates back to the 5
th
century, political and cultural shifts have been frequent and
significant. In just the last 100 years, the country was controlled by three very distinct types
of government, declared independence, and was divided into separate countries due to
underlying cultural fractions. Against this dramatic backdrop, we will share expertise and
professional experiences and hone our skills as community college international educators.
Proposal guidelines:
Plan for a 45-minute session
Topic related to the conference theme, for example:
o Strategies for exploring identity and relationships in a global context
o Physical, psychological and social development during times of transition
o Creating multi-disciplinary global learning experiences
o Designing effective education abroad programs
o Preparing students for education abroad
o Organizing study abroad in the context of the Czech Republic
Discussion/interactivity and panel presentations are encouraged
Conference components:
Daily sessions and discussions led by participants
Workshop on designing and leading faculty-led programs in Prague with
CISabroad’s experienced site director
On-site demonstrations and experiential learning for faculty-led study abroad
Practica on understanding study abroad in the context of Eastern Europe
