FRESH START PETITION
1. The Fresh Start option is available to undergraduate students only. The option is a one time opportunity for courses taken at
MSU Billings or transferred to MSU Billings. The Fresh Start Petition must be filed and approved prior to conferral of the
degree.
2. The student will be required to submit a petition to the Academic Standards and Scholastic Standing Committee in order to be
considered for the Fresh Start option. Each petition will be reviewed case by case and considered on its individual merit.
3. The student must not have been enrolled in any institution for a minimum of three calendar years (36 months).
4. The bankrupted coursework will remain on the student’s transcript. However, the credits and the grades will not be carried
forward into the student’s cumulative grade point average.
5. The student has the option to save “A” and “B” grades or bankrupt all courses within the quarter(s)/semester(s) which he/she
chooses to bankrupt. If more than one quarter/semester is to be bankrupted they must be consecutive quarters/semesters. A
maximum of three (3) quarters or two (2) semesters may be bankrupted.
6. In order to meet the eligibility requirements for the Fresh Start option, the student must have completed in residence since
returning or entering MSU Billings (select one)

15 semester credits with at least a 2.65 G.P.A. Work completed at another institution cannot be used to satisfy this
requirement.
____Baccalaureate Degree Seeking (BS/BA/BFA/BSED)
30 semester credits with at least a 2.65 G.P.A. Work completed at another institution cannot be used to satisfy this
requirement.
7. The Fresh Start option can be used only one time during the student’s attendance at MSU Billings (including City College).
