MIDWIFERY EDUCATION PROGRAM
SECTION 3: EQUITY ADMISSIONS SELF ID (VOLUNTARY)
The Ryerson Midwifery Education Program (MEP) seeks each year to admit a student body reflective of the general
population of Ontario, who bring to their midwifery education a diversity of experience and skills that benefit
both the MEP and the recipients of midwifery care across Ontario. It is important to the MEP's success in our
equity goals that we work to remove barriers and promote inclusion of students from groups that have been
underrepresented in the Ryerson MEP.
The MEP uses an equity admissions process to support equitable representation of groups underrepresented
in the MEP student body and the midwifery profession in Ontario. The MEP reserves a number of interview
spots (roughly 29%, matching the 2016 census data for Ontario) for racialized applicants. Those who identify as
racialized applicants in this short Self ID survey will be considered for the reserved interview spots in the
equity admissions process
.
Completion of this Self ID form is voluntary
. All applicants must meet the minimum academic requirements and
prerequisites for admission to the MEP and, if selected, must participate in the competitive interview process.
Please note a separate self-identification and admissions process is available for Indigenous applicants. Please
see the Aboriginal Admissions process for more information.
The Ryerson MEP uses the term ‘racialized’ in our admissions process to refer to people who are
non-Caucasian or non-white in colour. Racialization refers to the way societies create ideas of races as real,
different and unequal, which impact an individual’s economic, political and social life.
