STUDENT AWARDS
INFORMATION AND NOMINATION FORM
Every academic year, to further recognize the time that students expend on helping advance student
organizations and their programs, service initiatives, and overall and academic excellence on behalf of the
entire student body, the School of Law provides the following awards to individual students:
Leadership Award
Diversity and Cultural Competency Award
Community Service Award
Pro Bono Legal Service Award
Each recipient will receive an award of $2,000.00.
Eligibility and Qualifications
All upper division law students in good academic standing are eligible to receive these awards. Students
in their first year of law school are not eligible, and a student is not eligible to receive the same award
more than once. The SBA President and Editors-in-Chief of the law journals are also not eligible.
Selection Criteria:
Qualifications to be considered for all awards include, but are not limited to, involvement in student
organizations, philanthropy, and participation in service opportunities inside or outside the School of Law
community. More specific criteria for each award follows.
Leadership Award
Award recipient will be selected based upon the student’s display of leadership qualities during
their time in the School of Law. The award is not limited to the president of a student
organization, but service on the executive board of a student organization and general
involvement in student organizations and the School of Law community will be taken into
consideration.
Diversity and Cultural Competency Award
Award recipient will be selected based upon contributions to raise awareness of issues and
increase diversity, inclusion, and cultural competency in the School of Law and external
communities. Initiative in the creation of programing and participation in service will be
considered in selecting this recipient.
Community Service Award
Award recipient will be a law student who has provided outstanding community service in a non-
legal setting. The demonstration of a strong commitment to public service through a law school
program or a program outside of the law school will be considered in selecting this recipient.
