NONDEGREE SEEKING INTERNATIONAL STUDENT APPLICATION FOR ADMISSION
Non-degree seeking exchange students are not formally pursuing a graduate degree at Saint Louis University but rather are
receiving coursework, clinical work or other training, which they take back to their home institution. The exchange process is done
under the explicit permission of the Saint Louis University department or program that is providing the coursework, training, etc.
The non-degree seeking exchange status is appropriate for students who (1) participate in a formal exchange program governed by
an inter-institutional agreement with Saint Louis University; (2) required by their home institution to participate in a “study abroad”
type of program; or (3) have arranged an individual enrollment process with the department or program at Saint Louis University
and their home institution that includes financial arrangements differing from those of a formal exchange.
Persons, who are admitted to this non-degree seeking exchange status and are international students, are responsible for fulfilling
all regulations relevant to their visa status. All such students must meet whatever stipulations are set by the department or program
at Saint Louis University.
In order to be admitted to a non-degree seeking exchange status, the student must qualify to enroll or participate in
programs at the post-baccalaureate level. This qualification is achieved through a review by the program(s) indicated on
this application. It is the student’s responsibility to contact the appropriate graduate program chair to determine
availability and eligibility for class or training selection before proceeding with the application. Normally, admission as a
non-degree seeking exchange student is on a semester basis, with programs determining what the student can take and the
maximum hours allowed in the semester. For exchanges lasting more than a semester, the student must have a signed,
detailed plan from the department or program(s) involved, which is kept on file in the admitting department and is
provided to the Office of International Services. It is not necessary to reapply for non-degree seeking exchange status for a
second semester if such an agreement is on file.
Non-degree seeking exchange students are ineligible for fellowship, traineeship, assistantship appointments and for any other
financial aid.
To apply for non-degree seeking exchange status, contact the department or program first, then mail (NO FAX) the completed
form, $10.00 application fee, and official transcripts(s) showing conferral of a baccalaureate or graduate degree to the address listed
above. Applicants for whom degree transcripts have not been received may be refused enrollment in a graduate course(s).
Applicants for whom an exchange program with Saint Louis University is out of balance may also be denied admission until the
institutional balance is restored.
