emergency.Beforeyoucanapply,youmustfirstobtaina$10,000notarybond.OncetheCountyClerk’sOffice

hasreceivedyourApplicationforNotaryCommission,notarybondandotherrequireddocumenta tionbymail,

theClerk’sOfficewillcontactyoutoconductaZoommeetingtoperformanoathofoffice.Aftertheoathhas

beentaken,theClerk’sOfficewillreturnyourprocessedapplicationwhichyouwillthenberesponsiblefor

finalizingtheprocesswiththeStateofMichigan,OfficeoftheGreatSeal.Pleasereadthefollowinginstr

uctions

carefullyinordertoensuretimelyprocessing.ALLFIELDSMUSTBEFILLEDINANDALLSTEPSMUSTBE

Requirements:

1. YoumustbearesidentofOaklandCountyandbeatleast18yearsofage.

2. Ifyouareanout‐of‐stateresidentandyourprincipalplaceofbusinessisinOaklandCounty,youmay

applywiththeOaklandCountyClerk’sOffice.Youwillneedtoprovideproofofemploymentifyour

addressisnotinOaklandCounty,alongwithproofofyourcurrentresidency.

SuretyBond:

Youmustobtaina$10,000suretybond(notarybond)throughaninsuranceagentorcompanythatprovides

bondinsurance.YourbondMUSTbeissuedinyourname.Thiswillbethesignatureyou use foreachnotaryact

youperform.

Note:Ifyouareanattorney,abondisnotrequired.

1. Onceyoureceiveyourbondfromthebondingcompany, ensure the bond is in your name.

2. Youmustsignthebondas the "Principal" beforemailingittotheClerk’sOffice.Note:there are

generally two signaturesrequired onthebondformandboth must besigned. The second "Principal"

signature is under the "Oath of Office" section. Please also sign in the "Oath of Office" section and

our office will notarize the Oath once we complete the Zoom hearing.

3. TheoriginalbondmustbesubmittedtotheClerk’sOffice–itwillnotbereturnedtoyou.

AfterourofficereceivesyourApplicationforNotaryCommission:

1. Onceourofficereceivesyourcompletedpacket,wewillcallthenumberonyourchecklistsheetto

scheduleanappointmentdate/timefortheZoomhearing.

2. Afteradatehasbeenscheduledwithyou,ourofficewillsendyouanemailwithaZoommeetinginvite

forassigneddate/time.

3. Onthedateofyourappointment,pleasejointhemeeting5‐10minutespriortoyourassignedtimeto

ensureyoucanconnectandenablebothvideoandaudiosettingsonyourdevice.Ourofficewill

administertherequiredoaththroughtheZoomhearing.

4. YouwillneedtoshowyourgovernmentissuedIDonthevideohearing.

5. OncetheZoommeetingandoathhasbeencompleted,ourofficewillmailyoutheprocessed

ApplicationforNotaryCommissiontotheaddressonyourchecklistbymailusingUSPS–unlessyou
