Honors Program Graduate Application
2018-2019
Honors Program students wishing to receive the Honors Program Graduate designation on their ECC
transcript must complete the following application. The student must prepare this application within the
semester he/she plans to graduate. For more information on the Honors Program Graduate
requirements, see the Honors Program Handbook for the year you began as a member of the ECC Honors
Program (available at www.elgin.edu/honors).
Applications are due to the Honors Program Director no later than November 1 for fall graduation
and April 1 for spring graduation. Send completed applications to honors@elgin.edu

Part II: ECC Credentials
Honors Program Graduates are expected to have an exemplary academic record. You must have earned a
3.25 GPA or higher. Please list your GPA below as well as the degree you plan to earn and where you plan
to transfer to after leaving ECC (if applicable). You may access your GPA via the self-service feature in the
Student Portal.

rt III: Leadership and Service

onors Program Graduates are expected to have been actively involved in Phi Theta Kappa. Student
leadership or service to the College will be documented through a co-curricular transcript. Students may
meet this requirement in one of two ways:
A. Achieve Phi Theta Kappa (PTK) Level III (3) enhanced membership status by participating
in PTK sponsored events and earning the following credits:
3 credits in Scholarship
3 credits in Service
3 credits in Fellowship
2 credits in Fundraising
1 credit in Leadership (Become an Executive Chair of a PTK committee, lead a
project for a semester, be a leader within the PTK Honors Program committee)
B. Achieve PTK Level I (1) enhanced membership status and demonstrated leadership and
service within any on-campus organization in the form of a written letter or other
documentation (See special consideration for off-campus organizations at end of section).
Level I is achieved by participating in PTK sponsored events and earning the following
credits:
1 credit in Scholarship
1 credit in Service
1 credit in Fellowship
Level status must be achieved before completion of your academic program at ECC. PTK offers students a
variety of opportunities throughout each semester to earn credits in these areas. As you complete events,
be sure to keep documentation of your involvement to be used in your request for a co-curricular
transcript.
Attach a copy of your Co-Curricular Transcript to this application to document your PTK Level Membership
and leadership and service with any other on-campus organization. The transcript can be obtained in the

Student Life office (Building B, room 173). You may also provide a copy of your PTK enhanced membership
card.

If you completed option b with service and leadership with other campus or off-campus
organizations, your request for leadership/service experience must be outlined in a written letter.
The letter will describe the type of experience(s), the dates of the experience(s), and will reflect on
the overall service experience(s) and the student’s role as a leader. Supporting documentation is
expected.
Attach this letter to your Honors Program Graduate application submission.
Part IV: Honors Program Learning OutcomesThe Capstone Experience
For the Capstone experience, students must complete the Honors Capstone Portfolio. At the time of this
application, you must show that significant progress toward completing the portfolio has been
made through participation in the Honors Capstone Portfolio one-credit course. The Honors
Capstone Portfolio must be complete and submitted two weeks before the end of the semester for
final review.
For students completing the Honors Capstone Portfolio, the portfolio must meet the stated
portfolio requirements to demonstrate reflection on each program outcome. Please see the
requirements for details.
Through your involvement with the program you will:
Research, analyze, synthesize, and share your findings from a broad range of material.
Independently and critically integrate cross-disciplinary knowledge.
Explore alternative and global perspectives.
Reflect on the consequences of your ideas and actions, for yourself, for others, and for
society.
Participate in learning experiences beyond the classroom that include service and
leadership opportunities.
