TERMS
This appointment is made as the Graduate Program Director for the
Department of
Program,
for the period, May 28, 2019 through August 6, 2019.
Compensation for this position will be $3,500.00. Payment will be in one installment and processed in the first pay period
available after July 1, 2019. Check date should be July 10, 2019 for regular faculty and July 17, 2019 for contingent faculty.
In order to meet this payroll schedule a completed contract with all appropriate signatures must be received in the Graduate School
by May 1, 2019. If the appointee wishes to alter the period of appointment ( e.g., to half of the 10 week term), that change must be
approved in writing by the appointee’s department chair and dean prior to the initiation of this contract.
Employment under this contract is not eligible for paid leave benefits. The appointee shall have the required mandatory deductions via
payroll deduction, e.g., Maryland and Federal Income Tax withholding, and Federal Insurance Contributions Act (FICA), which includes
Social Security and Medicare.
RESPONSIBILITIES
The appointee agrees to be available for student inquiries and all other graduate program director duties a minimum of 2 days a week, for at least 10
hours per week but no more than 20 hours per week during the period of the contract. It is recognized that short periods of absence may be
necessary during the period of the contract for other professional responsibilities or for vacation. Such absences should not total more than two
weeks during the contract period. It is the responsibility of the appointee to assure that his/her department chair and dean are notified in advance of
such absences, have them approved, and make arrangements for coverage of the graduate director responsibilities during any periods of absence.
It shall be the appointee’s responsibility for any payment for coverage by others during the periods of absence.
The appointee will be expected to advise graduate students and potential graduate students, review graduate applications, and fulfill the obligations
of the graduate program director. The appointee will also be expected to post his/her available hours within the department in a location that is
easily accessible for students to view. A copy will be forwarded to the Office of Graduate Studies so they can correctly advise student of these
times when necessary.
TERMINATION
This contract is terminated on the last day indicated in the above section titled “Terms”. Employment under this contract is at will. Either the
appointee or the University may terminate this contract by giving the other two weeks written notice. In addition, the University may terminate
immediately upon notice for insufficient funds, default, or unsatisfactory performance by the appointee. The University may also, upon written
notice to the appointee, reduce the appointee’s work time and/or furlough the appointee. In the event of any such termination, furlough, alteration
or other action, appointee’s flat rate compensation shall be pro-rated.
The provisions of this contract shall be governed by the laws of Maryland.
