Galveston College
National Science Foundation STEM Scholarship
Application Deadline: September 20, 2019
The National Science Foundation (NSF) scholarships are for students pursuing a degree in one of the
science, technology, engineering or math (STEM) fields. This excludes health sciences fields such as
nursing or radiography. This scholarship requires involvement with the GC STEM Honors program
and the award could be up to $7,500 per academic year for a maximum of two years.
Eligibility Requirements:
1. Completed application
2. Demonstrated financial need (completed and current FAFSA required)
3. Demonstrated academic potential
4. Enrolled full-time in a degree program
5. Pursuing an Associate of Science degree in one of the NSF-recognized STEM disciplines
6. Acceptance and active Participation in the STEM Honors Program
7. Student must be a U. S. Citizen
Application Process:
1. Make sure to complete the whole application. Incomplete applications will not be considered.
2. Include a copy of your current college transcript(s) if applicable. If you are a first semester
college student, include a copy of your high school transcript.
3. Attach at least one letter of reference. Suggested sources include employers, teachers, other
school officials, counselors, ministers and civic leaders. Letters of reference should be on
professional letterhead will full contact information of the reference.
4. Type the required original essay containing 250 words or less about your needs and your goals
related to how a scholarship will help you advance your educational goals. You should include
your intended major and what you plan to do after graduating from Galveston College.
5. Turn in your complete application with all attachments to Dr. Ana Sanchez, room N-340 or via
email asanchez@gc.edu by September 20, 2019 at 5:00 pm.
The applications will be reviewed by a committee and evaluated for eligibility and scoring. A follow-up
interview will be required of the top-ranked eligible applicants in order to make the NSF Scholar
selections. Continuing Scholars do not have to re-apply each term. However, to continue, they must fully
participate in evaluation of their progress, meet all eligibility requirements, and have earned at least 10
honors points during the previous semester.
