Graduate Teaching Assistantship Application

General Instructions:
Graduate teaching assistantships support faculty and students as within the context of courses and labs. Requirements to
receive GTA are:
1. Demonstrated good oral and written communication skills and ability to explain complex concepts.
2. Potential applicants who are non-native speakers of English must attain a score of 50 or above on the Test of Spoken
English (TSE)/SPEAK, OR a score of 23 or higher on the speaking portion of the Internet Based TOEFL (iBT), OR achieve a
score of 7.0 or higher on the Speaking portion of the IELTS exam. Scores must be less than 2 years old.
3. Student must complete the Graduate Teaching Assistantship Workshop held by the Graduate School.
4. Recipients must maintain a GPA of 3.0 or grater for the duration of the assistantship appointment.
5. Student must attend the department level GTA orientation.
6. Student must be physically present in the university by the Wednesday before the semester begins.
For MS Students
Selected MS students can be awarded an MS Teaching Fellow. The MS Teaching Fellows Program is designed to help
increase the quality of classroom and lab instruction. For that reason, MS Teaching Fellow assistantships support faculty and
students as within the context of courses and labs. MS Teaching Fellow assistantships are awarded to College of Engineering
masters students for a semester period at $1,200/month for 20 hours per week. Students receiving MS Teaching Fellow
assistantships have been deemed by department chairs to be in the top 20% academically (GPA, aptitude for teaching and for
the material of the intended class or lab, demonstrated good written and oral communication skills, and ability to explain
complex concepts). Additional requirements to receive a teaching fellows assistantship:
7. Higher priority would be given to students who are completing their MS with either thesis or project option

(1) completed application form, please complete the form online and save it, do not print the form.
(2) unofficial copy of your undergraduate and graduate transcript
(3) current resume

Please do not submit the GTA application form to the Graduate School.
