Purpose and Eligibility:
The purpose of this scholarship is to promote higher education to students on our
community. It is the policy of WCL that these scholarships be used to defray basic
education expenses such as tuition, books, lab fees, etc. The recipient must be a non
traditional female student (defined as 24 years of age or older) enrolling at Laramie
County Community College part or full time. The applicant must be a resident of
Laramie County, and working toward a degree or job skills improvement.
Selection Criteria:
Recipients of the WCL scholarship will be the sole discretion of the GFWC Women’s
Civic League, Education Services Committee. Selection will be made by April of each
year, with formal announcement made no later than May. Scholarships will be awarded
for the following fall semester.
Scholarship Criteria:
1. A female non traditional student enrolling at Laramie County Community
College.
2. An essay of approximately 200 words including such items as your
occupational and life goals with a plan to achieve them, any unusual
circumstances that will help or prevent your achieving these goals,
participation in community activities, required job skills you are seeking,
financial need, and extra curricular activities in which you are involved.
3. A complete WCL application
4. One letter of recommendation
5. An official college or high school transcript(s)
6. Current Resident of Laramie County
Distribution of Funds:
Scholarship monies will be distributed in two equal payments. Payment will be made
at the beginning of the fall and spring semesters upon confirmation of enrollment of
scholarship recipient. Monies will be mailed directly to LCCC where an account will
be set up in the student’s name for use of the funds. Any funds not used by the student
will be forfeited and returned by the institution to the GFWC Women’s Civic League of
Cheyenne.
Number and Amount of Scholarship:
The number of scholarships may vary from year to year depending on the profits
earned from Christmas House. Christmas House is the annual ways and means project
of WCL, a nonprofit organization, returning all proceeds to the communities of Laramie
County through scholarships and grants.
Having read and understood the requirements of this application and verifying all
statements are true to the best of my knowledge, I submit this application for review by
committee. I also grant WCL permission to use my name and picture, if relevant, for
publicity purposes.
