Applicants for assistantships
must be formally admitted to a
graduate degree program at
Wichita State University.
Students admitted on probation
or placed on academic probation
following admission are not
eligible for such awards.
Assistantships provide cash
stipends and may include tuition
assessment at resident rates.
Appointments are made for 10,
16, or 20 hours per week with a
minimum of 16 hours per week
required to qualify for the
resident tuition rate.
The actual dollar amount of an
assistantship varies according to
the length of appointment, the
number of hours worked per
week, and the funding base for
the academic year.
Employment is contingent upon
a satisfactory background
check as required by Kansas
Board of Regents policy.
Major Responsibilities of
Research Assistantship
• Assist faculty with their
scholarly research and
creative abilities.
• Locate articles; do literature
reviews.
• Enter and analyze data using
SPSS software.
• May be required to assist
faculty with other activities,
including grading, technology
setup, word processing,
phone calls, etc.
NOTE: Appointment as a Graduate Teaching Assistant (GTA) requires that non-native speakers of English attain a minimum score of 50 on the Test of Spoken English
(TSE). ALL GTAs must have their spoken English competency assessed by two faculty members and one student with the Spoken English Screen Form (SESF)-1/98.
