IV. GENERAL PREVENTION
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Ebola poses little risk to the
United States general population and is not contagious until symptoms appear. It is always
good to avoid contact with anyone who is sick and to wash your hands regularly. Use soap
and water if available or use of an alcohol based hand sanitizer.
V. INTERNATIONAL TRAVEL RECOMMENDATIONS
If you are planning any International Travel, it is suggested that you monitor the CDC
website for updates. Based on the CDC guidelines, Alabama A& M University is making
the following recommendations concerning international travel. Updates from the CDC will
be sent on a periodic basis and will be available on the Alabama A&M University Student
Health and Counseling Services website at:

Alabama A&M University is:
1. Restricting all university-related travel to West Africa, specifically the countries of
Guinea, Liberia, Nigeria and Sierra Leone. This listing may be changed based on the
updates from the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) or the World Health Organization
(WHO).
2. Requiring students, faculty and staff who are traveling outside the United States for
credit, non-credit educational experiences, mission projects, or pleasure, to notify the
Alabama A&M University Student Health Center of plans to travel. You should provide
the dates of travel and the country or countries to which you will be travelling.
Reporting of plans to travel should start immediately and continue until further
notice.
3. Requiring any students, faculty, or employees who have been in countries where Ebola
outbreaks are occurring or who reasonably believe they may have been exposed to EVD
in the past 21 days to identify themselves to the physician in Alabama A& M University
Student Health and Counseling Services at (256) 425-4201. Trained staff will ask
appropriate screening questions by phone and assess Exposure Risk Level (e.g., high,
low and no risk exposure). Furthermore, these individuals regardless of exposure level
will be monitored for 21 days by the health center medical provider, per the CDC
guidelines.
