This document will explain how to transfer your SEVIS record (I-20) to the University of Dayton (UD).
SHOULD I TRANSFER MY SEVIS RECORD?
If you are currently studying or recently finished your studies in the US, you must transfer your SEVIS
record to UD before beginning your studies here.
WHO SHOULD NOT TRANSFER THEIR SEVIS RECORD?
In the following situations, a student must obtain a new I-20 and visa:
If you completed your studies more than 5 months ago
If you have a terminated or completed SEVIS record
If you entered on another school’s I-20 and cannot begin classes at UD within 30 days
If you cannot start at UD in the next available semester. See section “WHEN MUST I START MY
STUDIES AT UD” below.
HOW DO I TRANSFER MY SEVIS RECORD?
Complete Part A of this form. Ask the DSO/International Student Advisor at your previous institution
to complete Part B.
WHEN CAN I GET THE UD I-20?
If you will not leave the US before starting at UD, you will receive your UD I-20 upon arrival to campus.
If you will leave the US before starting at UD, you must request the UD I-20 before leaving the US. We
will mail the I-20 to your US address. If this is not possible, you must email isss@udayton.edu to formally
request that your I-20 be sent overseas.
WHAT ABOUT MY VISA?
If your current visa has not expired, a new visa is not required even if the visa carries the name of the
previous school. If your visa has expired, you must apply for a new visa using your UD I-20.
WHEN MUST I START MY STUDIES AT UD?
You must start your studies within 5 months of the last day you attended classes or the next available
term, whichever comes sooner. If the next available term is the summer vacation, you may take a
vacation if you have already completed a full academic year.
WHAT ABOUT MY ACADEMIC RECORDS AT MY PREVIOUS SCHOOL?
Our office does not handle transfer of academic transcripts. Send your academic records to the
International Admissions Office for credit evaluation:
