USC AIKEN PALMETTO COLLEGE PROGRAM SPECIFICS
I
n addition to the required courses listed on the previous page, the USC Aiken Palmetto College Business
Degree Completion Program has other requirements necessary to complete the degree. Also, there are
certain technological requirements necessary to be successful in the program.
UNIVERSITY REQUIREMENTS
These are requirements all USC Aiken students must complete in order to be eligible for graduation.
Some requirements are adapted for Palmetto College students.
N
on-Western Requirement: All USCA students are required to take one course considered Non-
Western. Ideally, this requirement is met with another required course. However, if you have
transferred courses into all of the areas where this requirement can be met, you will have to
take a separate Non-Western course. Your Palmetto College Advisor will help you identify areas
where this requirement can be met.
Writing Intensive (WI): USC Aiken Palmetto College students are required to complete two
Writing Intensive courses once ENGL 101 and 102 are complete. As is the case with the Non-
Western, this requirement should be combined with courses you already need. For example,
you need two Management Electives. Your advisor will recommend that one of them is
designated as Writing Intensive. This requirement can only be met through USC Aiken.
I
nter-Curricular Enrichment (ICE): These are lectures and other events delivered online. USC
Aiken Palmetto College students need to complete a maximum of eight ICE events over th
e
c
ourse of the program. Although, fewer may be required based on pre-USC Aiken credits hours.
Students receive credit by viewing podcasts and submitting a written description of th
e
lecture/event. This requirement can only be met through USC Aiken.
Wr
iting Proficiency Requirement: All USC Aiken students must demonstrate an ability to write
on a collegiate level. To meet this requirement, you must submit a writing portfolio (thre
e
p
apers previously written and one reflective essay). Student who do not pass the Writin
g
Portfolio must take ENGL 201: Writing in the University. Your Palmetto College advisor will
d
iscuss this in more detail as you move through the program.

COURSE FORMAT
Business courses taken through the USC Aiken Palmetto College program are offered in an online, 8-
week format. Each major semester is split into two sessions (Fall I, Fall II/Spring I, Spring II). Students
may take two courses each session. If general education courses are offered online through USC Aiken,
they will most often be offered in a 16-week format. Summer semesters are available, but the courses
are offered primarily in a 4-week format. However, these courses may be used toward completing the
business degree through Palmetto College.
TECHNOLOGY REQUIREMENTS FOR DISTANCE LEARNERS
These are the general technology needs for the USC Aiken Palmetto College program. All course content
will be offered via Blackboard, which will be offered through USC Aiken once you are enrolled into the
program. In addition, some courses require more specific software, which is often available for free or
bundled with the cost of additional course materials.
Hardware:
Reliable computer with sound and video playing capabilities
Broadband Internet connection (DSL, cable, satellite)
Webcam for interacting online and accessing remote support
Browsers:
