Students who plan to major in radiologic (x-ray) technology will be assigned the temporary major of pre-radiologic (x-ray) technology, with POS code 520,
until they are officially admitted to the radiologic (x-ray) technology program. Students may take preparatory courses and courses that fulfill general
education requirements during the waiting period. As an alternative to being assigned a temporary major, students waiting for admission to the radiologic (x-
ray) technology program may choose to major in general studies or any other open-admission program. Admissions, Enrollment Management at Takoma
Park/Silver Spring will assign a matriculated code once students are admitted to the radiologic (x-ray) technology program.
This curriculum requires a minimum of two years of didactic and clinical experience. It offers a basic general education as well as an in-depth study of
radiologic technology (including assessment of critical thinking skills) which is supported by extensive clinical experience. The program is accredited by the
Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology and course objectives are mandated by the American Society of Radiologic Technologists
(ARRT). Upon successful completion of the program, the graduate will receive the AAS and will be eligible to apply to take the certification examination
given by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists. Radiographers are eligible for employment in the radiology departments of hospitals, clinics,
and doctors’ offices. The curriculum has been designed to provide a transfer option for students who elect to continue studies beyond the AAS.
Each of the radiologic technology courses builds upon material offered in the previous course. A grade of C or better in each radiologic technology course
must be achieved before advancing to the next semester or summer session.
