SCHOLARSHIPS AWARDED BY
MESABI RANGE COLLEGE ALUMNI ASSOCIATION
Scholarship application criteria:
1.
The applicant must be enrolled as a full-time student at Mesabi Range College. A
full-time freshman or a full-time sophomore is a student who is registered for at
least 12 Mesabi Range College credits which must be taken at Mesabi Range
College.
2.
The applicant MUST supply a copy of all of his/her educational transcripts which
must contain a GPA. E-services transcripts that show the applicant’s academic
record will be accepted. Transcripts can be accessed for no cost by doing a Star
ID and password. Transcripts MUST show classes completed through Spring
Semester 2020.
3.
The scholarship award will be based on one or more of the following factors:
a. Scholastic ability
b. Financial need
c. Community involvement
d. Character
4.
The scholarship award shall be used for tuition and/or books at Mesabi Range
College. The scholarship recipient will receive the first h
alf of the scholarship at the
beg
inning of fall semester and the second ha
lf of the scholarship at the beginning of
sp
ring semester.
5.
The applicant will be considered for all scholarship awards for which they qualify;
CHECK THE CORRESPONDING BOXES.

Failure to follow directions, including completion of the application IN FULL and
submission of transcripts, WILL result in the application being voided. Transcripts MUST
show classes completed through Spring Semester 2020. (Form provided on Page 6)

Entering Freshman Scholarship – A tuition grant of $2,000 to a high school senior who
enrolls as a full-time freshman at Mesabi Range College. This award is based on financial need
and scholastic ability (must have a 3.0 GPA).
_ Craft/Trade Scholarship – A tuition grant of $2,000 to a full-time student who is enrolled
in a technical program at Mesabi Range College. This award is based on skills, attendance,
and instructor recommendation.
_ ___ F.B. Moe Memorial Scholarship – A tuition grant of $2,000 to an outstanding freshman
who enrolls as a full-time sophomore at Mesabi Range College. Provided in memory of Floyd B.
Moe who was a long-time educator and school administrator in Virginia. This award is based
on scholastic ability (must have a 3.5 GPA).
_ ___ William Monat Memorial Scholarship – A tuition grant of $2,000 to a full-time student at
Mesabi Range College. Provided in memory of William Monat, a long-time educator, coach,
and administrator in Virginia. This award is based on financial need and scholastic ability (must
have a 3.2 GPA) and is given to an education (teaching) major. Incoming freshmen,
sophomores, non-traditional students are eligible.
_ ___ Returning Sophomore Scholarship – A tuition grant of $2,000 to a freshman who enrolls
as a full-time sophomore at Mesabi Range College. This award is based on community
involvement, volunteer efforts, financial need, and scholastic ability (must have a 3.0 GPA).
_ ___ Pat & Babs Dimberio Memorial Scholarship – A tuition grant of $2,000 in memory of Pat
and Babs Dimberio, community and educational supporters. This scholarship will be awarded
to a traditional sophomore student enrolled at Mesabi Range College who has completed one
full year of freshmen courses at Mesabi Range College with an overall GPA of 3.5. The
recipient must also be actively engaged in community volunteerism, church involvement,
and/or current employment that supports ongoing educational needs.
_ ___ Margaret Marvin Memorial Scholarship – Tuition grants totaling $4,800 to full-time
applicant(s) at Mesabi Range College. Funded through endowment in memory of Margaret
Marvin who, for more than 30 years, was a me
mber and supporter of the Alumni Association. The
recipient must demonstrate good character with leadership skills and preferably express an
interest in teaching or library science. Incoming freshmen, sophomores, non-traditional students
are eligible.
_ ___ VJC Payback for Sophomores Scholarship – A tuition grant of $4,000 to an outstanding
applicant who enrolls as a full-time student at Mesabi Range College. This scholarship was
founded by the Virginia Junior College - Class of 1962 in recognition of the pivotal role the
College and its faculty played in assisting those students on their journey. This award is
primarily directed to a student with a STEM or business-related curriculum and is based on
community involvement and scholastic ability (must have a 3.0 GPA). Incoming freshmen,
sophomores, non-traditional students are eligible.
