INTERNATIONAL STUDENT
FINANCIAL ASSURANCE FORM
United States Government Regulations on Financial Ability
The United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) regulations state that any foreign
national students coming to the United States for full-time study or transferring from one academic
institution to another for the purpose to study must have sufficient funds to meet all anticipated
expenses for at least the first year of study.
It is the student’s responsibility to present acceptable proof of adequate financial support before
requesting the Form I-20 (Certificate of Eligibility) required for issuance of a student visa.
Documentary proof of this support must be presented with the I-20 form to the United States
Consulate overseas when applying for an entry visa. The immigration officer at the port of entry might
request to view your financial statement, as well.
The College of the Redwoods required minimum support is considered sufficient to support a
basic student lifestyle. It does not include expenses for travel, vacations or luxury items such
as automobiles or computers. A higher standard of living, inflation and emergencies might
require that students bring more personal funds than the minimum stated.
The Financial Assurance Form should be accompanied by an official bank document. There
must be at least $22,944.00 U.S. available for the first year. The completed Financial Assurance
Form must be signed (on page 2) by Parent or Person Financially Responsible and must be certified
by a bank or financial institution.
