Alternative Assessment Confirmation
ALTERNATIVE ASSESSMENTS:
Study Abroad/Exchange students who come to SOAS for one term will follow an Alternative Assessment plan. All written assignments
should be submitted via Moodle - ble.soas.ac.uk.
UNDERGRADUATE ALTERNATIVE ASSESSMENT POLICY FOR STUDENTS JOINING FULL YEAR MODULES:
One essay (4000 words maximum), due by the Friday of Week 1 of Term 2 (i.e. Friday 12 January 2018); or
If preferred by Module Convenor, this could be split into two essays (totalling 4000 words maximum), 1st due by the Friday following
Reading Week (i.e. Friday 17 November 2017) and 2nd due by the by the Friday of Week 1 of Term 2 (i.e. Friday 12 January 2018).
POSTGRADUATE ALTERNATIVE ASSESSMENT POLICY FOR STUDENTS JOINING FULL YEAR MODULES:
One essay (5000 words maximum), due by the Friday of Week 1 of Term 2 (i.e. Friday 12 January 2018).
POLICY FOR STUDENTS JOINING HALF UNIT MODULES:
If the module does not have an exam (coursework only), you are expected to submit all the same assessments as a regular student,
following the same deadlines.
If the module has an end of year exam, please speak to the Study Abroad Coordinator to discuss an appropriate assessment.
IMPORTANT NOTES:
Languages and other modules with an end of term test require that assessments be arranged before the end of Term 1
If you decide at a later date to change your assessment (e.g. one essay instead of two), please contact the Study Abroad Coordinator.
If your lecturer would prefer a different method of assessment (e.g. reaction papers or journals), please ask them to speak to the Study
Abroad Coordinator before signing the form.
Unless the Study Abroad Office receives written confirmation from your home institution, all registered modules will appear on
your transcript regardless of the mark.
