DOCK ELECTRIC INSPECTION CHECKLIST
1. Georgia Power Permit (electrical components)
2. Greene County Permit
a) Professionally Engineered Drawing
3. GFCI main breaker at point of service
4. Feeders from main service to sub panel to be stranded copper wire in schedule 40 PVC/buried 18"
a) 3 wire 120v
b) 4 wire 240v
c) Feeders cannot pass through main service wire way
5. Sub panel 36" AFG and 5 feet from water edge with float switch shunt trip.
a) Float switch shunt trip must be located above electrical datum plane but below all junction boxes and live electrical
parts and designed to trip main GFCI at the point of service.
6. Sub panel must have two 8' grounding electrodes with a ground ring with #6 bare copper and approved terminal connections.
(Flex must be approved for location).
a) All conduits must be installed center of walkways and within 2" of top of framing and 18" from the edge of the
dock.
8. Junction boxes must be approved for location and located above electrical datum plane and above float switch shunt trip.
Junction boxes 36" from finished dock surface.
9. Device covers must be approved for location.
10. All equipment must have disconnecting means with 30 inches of equipment.
11. All breakers in sub panel are to be GFCI
12. All lighting must be approved and suitable for location and have a 3rd party professionally engineered electrical design
drawing.
13. All lifts must be approved and suitable for location and have a 3rd party professionally engineered electrical design
drawing.
14. All irrigation must be approved and suitable for location and have 3rd party professionally engineered electrical design
drawing.
15. All documents, drawings, installation and specs for all equipment must be attached to permit application for review and
must be present on the job site.
16. All non-current carrying metal parts of docking facility such as metal piping, metal equipment enclosures, metal frames
of the structure and ramps, metal swim ladders and other metals in contact with the water, or may become electrically
energized, shall be electrically bonded to the equipment grounding system, at the sub panel to dock, and secured on dock
framing.
17. There shall be no electrical components located within 6' of any metal swim ladders.
18. A bonding jumper with a loop (Sized in compliance with NEC, but not smaller than #6 AWG) shall be installed around all
hinge points of metal ramps, floating structures and docks subject to elevation changes due to changes in water levels.
19. All non-current carrying metallic parts of the electrical system shall be bonded to the equipment grounding system
(Panels enclosures, gutters, junction boxes, receptacle boxes, etc.)
20. No connection points below electrical datum plane.
21. No wires, conduits, hanging below dock.
a) All conduits and wires must be 18" from outer edge of docks.
a) Sub panel
7. Sub panel feeders must be in schedule 40 PVC buried 18 inches and continuation on dock with an exception of flex for bends.
