HCC FERPA FORM AND NEXT STEPS
Congratulations! You were awarded an HCC Scholarship. In order to finalize your award, you must sign the
HCC FERPA Form and submit a thank you letter for the donor to the Financial Aid Services Office.
The HCCEF and the Development Office at HCC fosters a relationship of communication between scholarship
recipients and their donors through thank you letters, the Annual Student-Donor Lunch (scholarship recipient
names are listed in the program), and other similar activities. Scholarship recipients should be aware that they
may be contacted directly by HCC’s Development Office to follow up on thank you notes, scholarship speaker
interest, or if a donor would like to meet a recipient. In order to expedite the sharing of information, students
are asked to sign the following FERPA Statement, which allows HCC to share information with the donor.

tification and Authorization for Release of Educational Records: In accordance with the Family
Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), the following signed consent is necessary in order for Howard
Community College to release/share educational information with scholarship donors. I consent to allow
Howard Community College to share with applicable donors the following from my educational records: grade
point average, academic area of study, and scholarship essay.

You are expected to write a letter of thanks if you are the lucky recipient of a scholarship. You simply provide
the letter to Financial Aid Services, Room RCF222 along with this signed HCC FERPA form. No need for a
stamp or envelope.
Tips
for writing your thank you:
• Suggested topics to include:
o How the scholarship has helped you
o Your program of study at HCC
o Why college is important to you
o Organizations in which you participate
o Volunteer work
o Current or future Internship participation
o Your future plans
• Be sure to use the correct and full name of the scholarship(s) you were offered in your letter
• Be sure to check for grammatical and spelling errors - always
proofread
• Be sure to sign your thank you letter and print your name under
your signature
