the entire teacher certification program.

Admission to the Graduate Certificate in Teaching Elementary School
with an option to earn a Master of Arts in Curriculum and Instruction is by
application. Admission is not guaranteed.
Student must apply through UW Admissions for the Graduate Certificate
in Teaching Elementary School, and be accepted prior to the first day of
summer courses.

The student's status will be as a Graduate Certificate student and
graduate tuition will be charged for all course credits beginning with
acceptance in the program.
Graduate Certificate in Teaching Elementary School students who choose
to pursue the Master of Arts in C&I must apply directly to the UW C&I
graduate program. Application instructions and deadlines can be found
on the UW C&I website.
Admission to graduate study is not guaranteed.
Master's candidates have six calendar years to complete their degrees
from the beginning of the first course taken and listed on the Program of
Study.

Graduate Certificate students seeking an Elementary Education certification must
document 12 semester units of lab-based science courses including the Earth,
Physical, and Life sciences. If a candidate does not have the required science
content course(s) on transcript, then he/she must take the corresponding UW
science courses for elementary education majors (GEOL/ASTR 1070, PHYS/CHEM
1090, and/or LIFE 1020).
In addition to the required 12 semester units of science content, candidates must
complete the three one-unit elementary education science seminars (EDEL 1430,
1440, and 1450) as part of this certification program.
Graduate Certificate students seeking an Elementary Education certification must
document a minimum 9 semester units of approved mathematics courses.
If a candidate does not have the required mathematics content course(s) on
transcript, or the approved substitution, then he/she must take the corresponding
UW mathematics courses for elementary education majors as listed to the left.
Approved substitutions: MATH 1105 = MATH 1400/1405/1450 & STAT 2070/2050;
or MATH 2200 or 2350
In addition to the required 9 semester units of mathematics content, candidates
must complete the two one-unit elementary education mathematics seminars
(EDEL 1410 and 2410) as part of this certification program.
