WORD DETECTIVE
11 Flow diagram
Read the sentences and fill in the gaps on the flow diagram in order to describe what happens when a
balloon is rubbed on someone’s hair. This has an effect much like the van de Graaff generator.
• The balloon will steal electrons from your hair.
• Rub a balloon against your hair.
• Your hair will be attracted by the balloon and stand up.
• Put the balloon near your hair and the opposite charges attract.
• Your hair is now positively charged and the balloon is negatively charged.
