Subsidized Loan: The government pays the interest while the borrower is in school attending six or more credit hours and
during any periods of deferment.
Unsubsidized Loan: The borrower is responsible for all interest. Interest begins accruing as soon as the loan funds are
disbursed. The interest payments may be deferred while the borrower is in school attending six or more credit hours,
during their grace period, and during any periods of deferment.
The Department of Education will send you a Disclosure Statement for your student loan. READ THIS CAREFULLY! This
statement will inform you of the loan amount, the anticipated disbursement dates, and any fees deducted from the loan.
NOTE: The anticipated disbursement date is the anticipated date the loan will be posted to your student account.
This is NOT the date you will receive your funds in excess of on-campus charges.
