Emergency Services
Emergency Services (EMT)
Students who have chosen the program of study of Education & Training will
complete the following courses and will earn a Public Service Endorsement.
9th Grade: Disaster Response (1 credit)
Disaster Response includes basic training of students in disaster survival and
rescue skills that improve the ability of citizens to survive until responders arrive.
Students will learn how to make communities safer, stronger, and better prepared to
respond to the threats of terrorism, crime, public health issues, and disasters of all kinds.
10th Grade: Counseling & Mental Health (1 credit)
In Counseling and Mental Health, students model the knowledge and skills necessary
to pursue a counseling and mental health career through simulated environments. Students
are expected to apply knowledge of ethical and legal responsibilities, limitations, and the
implications of their actions. Professional integrity in counseling and mental health care is
dependent on acceptance of ethical and legal responsibilities.
11th Grade: Anatomy and Physiology (1 credit)
The Anatomy and Physiology course is designed for students to conduct
laboratory and field investigations, use scientific methods during investigations, and make
informed decisions using critical thinking and scientific problem solving. Students in Anatomy
and Physiology will study a variety of topics, including the structure and function of the
human body and the interaction of body systems for maintaining homeostasis.
12th Grade: EMT Basics
Emergency Medical Technician (EMT)—Basic instructs students to meet and exceed
standard knowledge needed to be a valid Emergency Medical Technician. The curriculum
includes skills necessary for a student to provide entry level emergency medical care, life
support, and ambulance service.
Students will be able to earn the following industry based certifications:

The Emergency Services program of study focuses on training students to respond to emergency situations, namely medical emergencies
and fire-based emergencies. Students may learn how to prevent emergencies, respond appropriately and in accordance with rules and
regulations during crises, and investigate and delineate the source of the emergency.
The Law and Public Service Career Cluster® focuses on planning, managing, and providing legal services, public safety, protective services,
and homeland security, including professional and technical support services. Students will examine the roles and responsibilities of police,
courts, corrections, private security, and protective agencies of fire and emergency services.
Successful completion of the Emergency Services program of study will fulfill requirements of the Public Service Endorsement.
